Championing Care for Children in Brazil

For more than 80 years, Johnson & Johnson has had a strong commitment to caring for the health and well-being of families throughout Brazil. In 2014, Johnson & Johnson celebrated this long time presence in Brazil as the exclusive and official healthcare sponsor of the FIFA World Cup™. The sponsorship presented a way to continue to drive growth with our diverse group of businesses, to enhance our ability to extend our reach and strengthen relevance with consumers and other key stakeholders, and to deepen our commitment to the communities we serve.

A key program of our 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ sponsorship sought to shine a spotlight on people around the world who go above and beyond to do extraordinary things in caring for others. The global Champions of Care program honored 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ Volunteers, fans in Brazil and the U.S., healthcare institutions in Brazil, and employees of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies around the world who demonstrate an exceptional commitment of caring for others.

All of the Champions of Care were united by their ability to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to improving the health and well-being of others, inspire others to engage in caring efforts through recognizable acts of care, and have a positive and lasting impact on people’s lives. Most notably honored as a Champion of Care was Ethan King, a 16-year-old student from Michigan who, inspired by his own calling to care, has spent the past six years of his young life working to provide poverty-stricken children around the world with new soccer balls through Charity Ball, the non-profit organization he founded.

Ethan was honored on Katie!, Katie Couric’s national daytime talk show, and worked with Johnson & Johnson to donate 500 soccer balls to underserved children in Brazil. Partnering with longtime Johnson & Johnson NGO partner Saude Crianca, Ethan traveled to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to hand deliver soccer balls to deserving children. Together, Johnson & Johnson, Charity Ball and Ethan King continued a legacy of caring for the children of Brazil by providing them with the hope and wellness that the game of soccer creates.
